Novi Agriculture Program Wins Big at So Cal Livestock Show!

Norte Vista Agriculture had 38 students participate in the So Cal Livestock Show at the Lake Perris Fairgrounds this past week. The Livestock shows are the culmination of the students Supervised Agricultural Experience projects that are part of their grades in their Ag classes. Students spend countless hours leading up to the fair, each year, feeding caring for and practicing with their livestock projects to prepare them for showing and marketing. Students also keep online business records on their projects showing their expenses, income and hours of labor.


We had a very successful fair this year with our Beef Cattle, Sheep, Market Goats and Swine all winning first places in their respective club groups. Club group is where each school or club takes three animals of the same species that are uniform in size and quality in to be judged against the other schools club groups and this year we won them all.


In Beef Cattle we had the FFA Reserve Champion and overall Reserve Supreme Champion exhibited by Angelica Chacon.


In Swine we had the FFA Champion, FFA Reserve Champion and the overall Reserve Supreme Champion was also the overall Reserve Supreme Champion of the show all exhibited by Tanner Kane. In Swine FFA Advanced Showmanship our students placed 1st Lexie DeMartino, 2nd Tara Walker, 3rd Tanner Kane, and 4th George Belmares.


In Sheep we had the FFA Reserve Champion exhibited by Hope Acedo and all of our sheep placed either 1st or 2nd in their weight classes. In sheep showmanship Anthony Razo placed first in Novice Showmanship.


In Market Goats we had the FFA Champion, exhibited by Caylee McNaul, and FFA Reserve Champion, exhibited by Charolette Cooper, and Caylee’s FFA Champion was also the overall Reserve Supreme Champion of the show. In Advanced Market Goat Showmanship our students placed 1st Caylee McNaul, and 2nd Charolette Cooper, and in Novice Goat Showmanship Monique Gonzalez placed 1st.


We also had 2 Advanced Showman and 2 Novice Showman who qualified to advance to Master Showmanship where they show 6 different species of livestock. In Novice Master Showmanship Anthony Razo placed 1st and Monique Gonzalez placed 3rd. In Advanced Master Showmanship Caylee McNaul placed 1st and Lexie DeMartino placed 4th.


In Small Animals we had students exhibit Rabbits where we received Best of Show, exhibited by Angelica Chacon. Novalee Steele had the FFA Champion and overall Supreme Champion Meat Pen and placed 1st in Advanced FFA Rabbit Showmanship and 2nd in Small Animal Master Showmanship. Cameron Soto had the FFA Reserve Champion and overall Reserve Champion Meat Pen.
